This song is about knowing when to move on. It's about giving up and moving forward although it may be difficult. It's about ultimately wanting to be in a good situation, even if that means leaving behind something that is very important to you. It makes you question where you want to go after you leave, or more importantly, if leaving was the right decision to begin with. And although the new path may not lead anywhere, should you still take it? This relates to other songs we have listened to because it expresses an internal conflict. The song talks about a person struggling emotionally and not knowing how to resolve the situation or where her new path will bring her. There is also a lot of repetition of the chorus:
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste?
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
The chorus is so emphasized because it ties together the meaning of the song as well as highlighting the message. It gets imprinted into the mind of the listeners and makes us open our ears and actually register what message the lyrics are conveying.
