Comparing today's teens to those of the 1920's
Comparing today's youth to the youth of the 1920's, there are really not that many differences. With each new born generation, there is going to be evolution of people, evolution of trends, and most importantly, evolution of music. The major difference bewtween the teens of the 1920's and the teens of today is conservatism. More directed towards the girls, being dressed conservatively was socially accepted and there was a very distinctive dress code. Now, there is no such this as a defined social acceptability. People are all over the place with how they dress. A lot of older generations put the blame of this generation's trends on the teenagers. But it really isn't our fault. There is so much influence in the media. From Jersey shore to european fashion, there is no limit. Also, regarding makeup, it seems to be condoned by society. How can girls be expected to please the older generation with their conservatism when present day society is putting pressure on them to look a certain way. I think that the whole revolution of the new and upcoming teenager generations needs to be put into persepective. Sure, drugs and alcohol are more abused now than they were before, but times have changed. There are more resources that enable poor decisions. No one ever though of doing that back in the 20's. That doesn't mean that this generation behaves worse, it means that we live under different circumstances. Music is another factor that seems to disgust older generations. Like every other aspect of this generation of teenagers, music is probably the most distinctive difference. I think that music should not be as harshly criticized as it is. Music, even in the 20's originated from a previous generation of music. Like presnet day music, that has also derived from a previous foundation of music. Sure, the language might be more vulgar, but I don;t think that is something that should be blamed on teenagers. I also don't think people take account for the teenagers who do appreciate older music.
Song analysis: Chasing Pavements
This song is about knowing when to move on. It's about giving up and moving forward although it may be difficult. It's about ultimately wanting to be in a good situation, even if that means leaving behind something that is very important to you. It makes you question where you want to go after you leave, or more importantly, if leaving was the right decision to begin with. And although the new path may not lead anywhere, should you still take it? This relates to other songs we have listened to because it expresses an internal conflict. The song talks about a person struggling emotionally and not knowing how to resolve the situation or where her new path will bring her. There is also a lot of repetition of the chorus:
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste?
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
The chorus is so emphasized because it ties together the meaning of the song as well as highlighting the message. It gets imprinted into the mind of the listeners and makes us open our ears and actually register what message the lyrics are conveying.
Adele: Chasing Pavements
I've made up my mind,
Don't need to think it over,
If I'm wrong I am right,
Don't need to look no further,
This ain't lust,
I know this is love but,
If I tell the world,
I'll never say enough,
Cause it was not said to you,
And that's exactly what I need to do,
If I'm in love with you,
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste?
Even If I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
I'd build myself up,
And fly around in circles,
Waiting as my heart drops,
And my back begins to tingle
Finally could this be it or
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste?
Even If I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste?
Even If I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep on chasing pavements?
Should I just keep on chasing pavements?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere,
Or would it be a waste?
Even If I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up,
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
Don't need to think it over,
If I'm wrong I am right,
Don't need to look no further,

Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
